Witches Red Salt: Powerful Love Charm

Witches Redsalt:
A traditional Witches Love Charm

With tomorrow being Valentines day alot of people are thinking about love spells and love charms.  Love magic can be effective.  It can be used to attract a long term relationship, a sexual relationship, friendships and more.  Like with any spells love spells need to be made very specific.  You may find that if you target an individual that the relationship is not a healthy one and they end up being obsessive or controlling.  This is why it is best in love spells to gear them towards a specific type of person (meaning qualities, interests etc) rather than an individual.

With this in mind one of the most powerful love charms out there is Witches Red Salt.  Witches Red Salt is an herbal charm that is made out of roses, sea salt and other herbs associated with love such as cinnamon, dragons blood, and Apples (the peel or flower would be best here).  The goal of the Red Salt is to attract love first other additions depend on the individual witch.

Now that we know what Red Salt is used for let’s make an All Purpose Red Salt.  This witches Salt will ensure fidelity, attract love, happiness, and friendship, all things that are essential in a healthy relationship.  Once we have the Red Salt made we will take a look at how you can apply the red salt in a spell.  The first part of the entire process is the crafting and charging of the Red Salt.

The act of making the Red witches salt is a spell in itself.    When you are creating the salt you are directing, manipulating and focusing various energetic forces into the salt.  You are working with the energy of the herbs and your own emotional energetic forces to create an item used to direct those energetic forces for a change in your life or the life of another person.  You are effectively working a spell through the process of making the Witches Red Salt.

Crafting the Red Salt

Materials:

4 cups Sea Salt *Any salt will work.  Sea salt is best.  Kosher salt works as well.  Pink Himalayan salt will add to the spell from its color.  (Salt is used to cleanse and remove blocks in the way of attracting love)
1 Cup Sugar (to sweeten them to you)
1 Cup Red Rose Petals (for love)
1 Cup Dried Apple Peels (Love)
1/4 cup Catnip (Happiness)
3 Tablespoons Dragonsblood (lust and love)
2 Tablespoons Ground Cinnamon (lust and love)
1 Tablespoon Ground Allspice (Fidelity)
Red Candle (for love)
Green Candle (For the herbal spirits)
White Candle (Spiritual force in general)
Mixing Bowl
Mortar And Pestle
Rose Quartz (self love and friendship)
Jar or Container with a lid to store your salt in

Spell:

On your altar place the three candles in a triangle with the white at the top point and the red and green at the bottom point.
Place the mixing bowl in the center of the candles
Around the Mixing bowl lay out the Rose, Apple Peels, Catnip, Dragonsblood, Cinnamon, and Allspice.
As You light each candle state:

“I call upon the spirits of the herbal Green
The powers from the worlds unseen
Lend me your blessings on this night
Bring me the powers of love shining bright
Empower this charm today
Bring us love which will stay”

Next you take the  Salt and pour it into the mixing bowl
Pick up the Rose Petals and Hold the Rose petals over the candles.
As you hold the rose petals over the candles feel the powers of the spirit awaken.
Thank them silently and put them into the Mortar and Pestle.
As you grind the Rose petals into the finest powder that you can  see love surrounding you.
Feel the energy of love flowing from your hands into the salt
Once the Roses are ground add them to the red salt
Stir the roses into the salt clockwise once again visualizing love.  See the salt covered in a bright red light that is warm and welcoming (Red being love, desire and passion)
Take the Apple Peels and repeat the process using the Mortar and Pestle.
Once the Apple Peels are ground add them into the salt again stirring clockwise visualize the red light
Take the Catnip and awaken it as you did with the Apple Peels and Rose.
Once again grind the Catnip into as fine of a powder as you can and add it to the salt stirring clockwise
Awaken the Dragons blood, and add it to the salt followed by awakening the Cinnamon, and Allspice together.
Next add the sugar
Now that all the herbs are combined continue to stir the Red Salt together.
As you stir the salt visualize the salt glowing with red light.
While you stir and blend chant the following chant five times:

“Love come to me
One that freely loves me
Bring a lover that’s true
Open me to a love that’s new”

Once you feel that the energy has reached its max potential place your hands over the salt and draw a pentacle and a heart sealing in the energy
Pour the Charged Salt into your jar or Container
Cover With the lid and place the Rose Quartz stone on the Lid to continue to charge the Salt
Extinguish the Candles

The red Salt is now ready to use.  Simply take out a small amount as needed for spell and ritual work.

Working With Red Salt

Now that we have made the red salt it’s time to talk about how we can work with the witches salt. It is important to remember that witches have always been very practical.  They worked with what they had on hand and when they could.   Working with red witches salt is designed to be practical and easy.

Working with red salt is fairly easy. The salt is already charged and ready to go.  You can simply use the red salt as it is.  That’s right.  Since the red salt is already charged all you need to do now is give it a specific direction to work in.  You can sprinkle the red salt into your shoes with the intent to attract love with each step.  Just sprinkle the salt and say your intent for love.    If you are the type to be a little more formal with your application of powders the following two spells are more structured ways to use the sprinkle in your shoes trick.

Walk to manifest Love
Materials:

Red Salt
Your Shoes
A piece of Paper with your petition written on it

Spell:

On the paper write out your desire to have love.  Be sure to include any specific desires and qualities about the type of person you are looking for.  Things like hobbies, music, general interests, etc as well as personality traits (supportive, strong, good with animals etc) down
Once the paper has been written on sprinkle a little bit of the Red salt over the Paper and state:
“”May every step I take this day bring true love my way”. ”
Fold the paper towards you with the red salt and place in your shoes.
Then as you walk every day the energy in your steps will activate the salt.
Your walking ever day will attract the energy that you are sending out through your steps.

Dancing for Love
Materials:

Red Salt

“Every move I make tonight brings a lover that is right”.
The more you dance the more energy you will gather and direct.
The salt will act as a focal point directing the energy from dancing and the salt into the earth through your feet.

There are other ways that you can sprinkle witches salt and form a love spell.  Many men and women use lotions and colognes or perfumes to male ourselves feel good about ourselves and to feel attractive.  You can use red salt to strengthen the feelings of attractiveness when you work with those products.  The goal in this application is to maximize how you feel attractive so it gains the attention of those who you are attracted to.

Makeup and Lotion Attraction Spell
Materials:
Red Salt
Lotions and or any Beauty supplies (this includes hair styling supplies as well as makeup and colognes)

Spell:
Gather all of your Beauty Supplies together
Envision yourself in a pink (for self love) and red (for general love and attractiveness)
As you pick up each item see a red and pink light entering the items until they glow.
Once they are glowing pick up the red salt and sprinkle it over the item stating
“Love come to me freely
One who accepts me
A love that’s meant be”

Now these items will be charged for the next month for both self love and romantic love.
Simply use them as you would normally.

Notes:
Repeat the spell once a month to keep the items empowered
Perform the spell as needed when items are replaced

These spells should help you get started.  Working with witches salt can be as simple or as complex as you would like it to be.  The charm is powerful and ready to use.  Be wise.  If you are unsure about performing a spell or working do a reading and look to find out if its a good time to do the spell.  If its acceptable to perform the spell get to work.  If not do a reading and you’ll find out what you can do instead.

Winter crafts for winter children – snowflake fun

There is nothing quite like the enjoyment that can come from creating crafts together during the winter. Families and friends can enjoy the Yule season with an inexpensive activity that features that cold visitor, the snowflake. This part of the Wheel of the Year usually brings many of those for most areas in the Western hemisphere above here in the United States, and especially in my own great state of Michigan. Here are some fun ways that you can get together with children, or friends, of both, and make some memories.

pexels-photo-57812

Paper Snowflake Runner

This idea comes from  Bar Rucci., a graphic designer, art teacher, and mom. The idea is simple. Take some time out of the day and sit down and cut some paper snowflakes. There is no right way or wrong way to schedule this activity. It can be during, before, or after Yule.

Gather together your paper, scissors, some cellophane tape, and maybe some cocoa on a flat space. Fold your papers, and cut your snowflakes. Once everyone has made their desired masterpieces, spread them all out atop the table you want to cover to make the design you like. Now, tape all the flakes together, linking them on the bottom, arm to arm.

To jazz it up a bit, you could start off with scrapbook paper. Or if you are willing to deal with the legion of sparkles invading your space like a fey squadron, use some glue and glitter. Sequins are also a fabulous way to bring some zing.

For those of us who do public and private rituals, altar coverings made this way are a great way to include the younger members of the community or family to be a part of the solstice gatherings and festivals. Giant flakes can also be cut to use as a banner, if made with thicker paper products. There is no limit to how this activity can be scaled to suit the occasion. The only limit is the time and imaginations of those who are involved in the craft.

Thimble Babies

The thimble is one of those items that it seems that everyone knows about, but no one really notices anymore. They are found in dollar store sewing kits, in collections made of porcelain, and at holiday craft shows. But there is another use they can have for fun. You can make Thimble Babies.

pexels-photo-60229

For this to work, you will need to find a short and simple story that features at least two characters. You will also need a willing performer. Oh, and some other supplies:

A label sticker, or masking tape (plain)

A pom pom about the diameter of a dime.

Some washable markers, in different colors, with fine tips

Some glue

Thimbles

You are going to perform a quick finger play with your babies, so hopefully you have some stories that you enjoy. If not, then there are great sources at Songs for Teaching. They have some really fun ones.

For our example, we are going to choose “3 Blue Pigeons”.  Using the glue, attach the pom poms to three thimbles. You can, of course, color coordinate them if you wish. They should look like tiny towers with fuzzy balls on top. If you had four they could be itsy bitsty Watchtowers in a Circle teaching…..but I digress. (winks)

Now, attach the labels or masking tape to the front of the thimble. Draw little faces with the markers onto these. Have fun with it. For added character, consider gluing millet, or carrot, seeds as eyes. Adding some tiny blue tinsel would be great.

Once you have finished this, it is time to put them on your fingers. This is where the fun really begins, as each person can take turns being the story teller. Make as many as you like. It is simple and easy and they can be transported to Grandmother’s house with a minimum of fuss.

The story of the return of the Sun King would be fun, too. Yellow pom poms  are easy to find. You could even enact your own battle of the Oak and Holly kings. Just remember to make it fun.

Special note: I am not responsible if younger boys decide that Thimble Babies make armor for thumb warriors in the back seat of the Chevy while you are driving and one flies into the dashboard.

Knot Magick

A few years back, a member of the circle I was then a part of brought a photocopy of some info on knot magic to our ritual, and we read it, and tried it out.

It was an interesting experience, one that I want to share with you.

A yellow patterned background with a black cord on top with four knots
Knot magic at work. Photo: Janet Callahan

It turns out the copies I was given years ago are a chapter from DJ Conway’s book, Wicca: The Complete Craft.  I don’t own a copy, but Google Books has it in their library.  The internet is an amazing thing….

Knot magic has been used for hundreds (probably thousands) of years. Many of the various Goddesses of Fate are weavers, who tie  and loosen knots all the time. And there are lots of stories of sailors buying knotted cords from witches and wizards, in order to make the wind blow if their ships were stalled.

Looking back to that bit about the ships tells us something important about knot magic: more than anything, it’s something of a battery, storing energy up for when we need it. And frequently, the energy stored is something natural – wind, the full moon, the dark moon….

An organized witch might, then, prep many different cords with knots, each cord representing a specific type of energy they might need later.

Another obvious use of knot magic is to bind.  That is, after all, the definition – to tie something securely.  Equally, the untying of knots can be used to symbolize the dissolving of a problem.

Even our weddings, both Pagan and more mainstream use knot magic and knot imagery – to get married is to “tie the knot” in the mainstream world, and our handfastings typically involve an actual cord being tied around the hands of those being joined.

So, how would one use knot magic to store and use energy?  The example given in the pages I have give some good examples, and this is basically what we did that night so long ago.

For the full moon, pick a silver or dark purple cord. While the instruction say to use a 2-3 foot cord, I’d suggest 39 inches – 13 x 3 – for best effect. You want cord that is not too slippery (satin cord, for example, does not hold knots well), and not too stiff (we used 1/8″ gross-grain ribbon, which was pretty hard to tie because it was stiff).

On the full moon, cast your circle and perform any other ritual things your tradition recommends before your working.

Use a full moon incense, and cleanse the cord in the incense smoke. Stand somewhere in the moonlight, making sure the moonlight has touched all of the cord.

Now, you will tie nine knots, from one end of the cord to the other, while reciting this chant (or something like it):

Knot of one, this spell’s begun.
Knot of two, the power is true.
Knot of three, my will shall be.
Knot of four, I gather more.
Knot of five, moon power is alive.
Knot of six, the power I fix.
Knot of seven, moon magic leaven.
Knot of eight, this spell is fate.
Knot of nine, the threes are trine.
I gather moonbeams in this cord, according to my magic words.
Moon power is stored here on this night for magic good and strength so bright.
(chant from Wicca: The Complete Craft)

Then finish out your ritual and close your circle.

When you later wish to use that stored energy (for example, you need to do a spell that normally requires a full moon, but the moon is now just a tiny sliver), take your cord and your full moon incense, set up your ritual as you normally would, and during your working, you untie the knots from one end to the other, visualizing the full moon energy flowing into your hands, using the following chant:

I open the door to the power beyond,
The moon gate that has an Otherworld key.
Unending power flows into my hands.
This is my will and so shall it be.
(chant from Wicca: The Complete Craft)

Then do the rest of your working as if there is a full moon, and then close out your ritual as you typically would.

Knot Magic

Knot Spells

A knotty bit of business – a little note on magickal cordage

Public Domain

Knot magick is one of the basic tools in the practitioner’s cache of skills.  Witch’s Ladders, cord spells, and knot craft are used to bless, curse, or tie up workings for controlled release.  Its use in weather witchery and healing is also one of the arts that remain the go to part of training in the beginning worker’s journey to the Craft.

However, little time seems given to the teaching the time-honored skills used by the essential knot worker. It is common to see yarn purchased from the local fabric store.  For my particularly powerful workings, I have found that returning to the techniques of the true Earth Witch satisfying.  This means making my own cordage, ropes, and strings.

Public Domain
Pink Bindweed – Pseudopanax

In Michigan we can thank the activism of the Monarch butterfly activists for vigorously sewing milkweed all over the state.  It now grows in abundance.  It is also one of the more common plants for simple cordage.

The material used for the cord  may correspondent to the intention.  As an example, Bindweed, though difficult to work with for beginners, is an excellent material to make for binding.  It tends toward fragility when you work with it, so I would recommend a loose braiding, not a twist.  Or, rose vines, beaten to pliability, for defense.  Use gloves if not dethorned

However, a more unknown source of cordage would be that of blackberry.  It grows wild all over and is easy to find if you know where to look.  Be careful, though, because in Southeastern Michigan it seems good friends with Poison Ivy.  In some of my classes for the Black Moon Grove, we spent a little time in my home garden looking at the brambles of my blackberry plants in preparation for harvest.

It can also be used for Traditional Craft to make the whisk.  This has gone out of fashion in modern neo Pagan witchcraft for the most part publicly.  You might find some traditional information about this at the new store, Artes and Craft. Paul Barbary is an excellent source of information.

Here is some brief information by an exceptionally credible source.

Wild Blackberry vine - FASTILY
Wild Blackberry vine – FASTILY

“The Witch’s Whisk is made of dried out blackberry stems and with the end bound to form a handle. Here in the south west when a witch decides to make magic she first selects a spot or place where she will work, be the chosen place inside or out. The next thing to be done is that of cleansing the chosen spot of all evil forces. This is where the bundle of blackberry twigs comes in. She sets a light to the twigs and with them smouldering, burning and making smoke, she dances and weaves her way in and around and around over and over again. So this is one might call it: ‘a witch’s devilscarer’.” – Cecil Williamson

This skill takes a little time to master, but it is certainly fun.  But more importantly, it is a fundamental skill that I believe magick workers should at least try once.  The energy and force of will, applied with focus, when creating the cords adds an extra layer of potency that cannot be matched by buying a pre-made material.  Try it for yourself and give some feedback below in the comment section if you would like.
